5 lesser known tips for getting cheap International Flights
- Check with an online travel agent (like Expedia) and the airline's own page. There's often a price difference of up to $50 on the same flight - and you might get more baggage allowance with one.
- Consider booking separate tickets for each leg of your journey. Research budget airlines that fly to hub destinations. Air Asia, Jet Star and Tiger Airways could take you to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore - where you'll be well placed to fly cheaply to Europe, Africa, the Middle East and within Asia. Just remember to leave plenty of time between flights - if one is delayed and you miss the next, you'll be liable for the costs.
- Check the price up to 3 times a day. Tickets can fluctuate from one minute to the next. Clear your cookies to make sure that you're seeing the live prices. But don't wait too long to book - in the long run, prices will go up.
- Travel on a Wednesday or Saturday. There's less demand for seats on these flights, hence tickets are cheaper.
- Contrary to popular belief, you can barter with travel agents. Once you find the cheapest flights online, call a rival travel agent and see if they will beat the price. You could be pleasantly surprised.
